Weekly Blog - September 16th, 2022
This week, the students took their first crack at writing our weekly blogs!
Literacy this week
:)So this week in literacy we did a lot of different things like we finished our book Fantastic Mr fox, and we read an article about Albert Einstein. Also we started a new book called the Giver. It is about a dystopian wasteland and I think we all like it so far.
We also did literacy stations and every station so far includes grammar minutes, independent reading, spelling activity, speed syllables, weekly paragraphs and writing.
This week we started doing haiku. We have made a booklet for 7 days of haiku and later on we will learn about other types of poetry :)
Letter to My Teacher was due this past Tuesday. Please check PowerSchool for your child's completion of this assignment.
SCIENCE
This week, we started our parts of the tree unit, we learned about two types of trees, deciduous, and coniferous.
We learned. that deciduous trees have leaves and that the leaves fall off in the winter and fall. Coniferous trees have pine needles and pine cones. Their pine needles don't fall off in the winter. We also did parts of a tree. They have roots, a trunk, branches, leaves and crowns. We also learned parts about the uses of the parts of the tree like the roots gathering nuterience from the ground. The trunk holds up the branches and transports the nutrients from the roots to the branches to the leaves.
Math
This week we reviewed the Cartesian Plane. We used a grid that has numbers from 0-20.
We then played battleship on the Cartesian Plane
We reviewed place value of numbers up to 100,000,000
We also did place value war. It was pretty fun and epic
Added and subtracted numbers up to 10,000,000
We played different dice games to practice both adding and subtracting
